George Claude Gideon, 89, of 213 Woodbury Street, died on September 29th at Shannon Gray Rehabilitation and Recovery Center.

George was born January 20, 1924 in Lavonia, Georgia to Matthew Gideon and Lettie Mae Blackburn Gideon. He has been a member of First Emmanuel Baptist Church since he came to High Point, where he served as a member of the Junior Deacon Board. He enjoyed gardening, reading the Bible, and being with family and friends. Throughout his working career, he was employed at various places including Bottoms Fiske Trucking Line and Hatteras Yacht Company. On November 17, 1945, he was joined in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Harris. Out of this union, they had two sons, George Lawrence and Charles Eugene. George was preceded in death by his parents Matthew and Lettie Mae, his wife Mary, and his son George Lawrence.

He is survived by son Charles and wife Deborah of Annapolis, Maryland and granddaughter Julia Enid and husband Nathan Ryan Woodson of Chicago, Illinois. He leaves to mourn his passing many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
