Longtime Arizona resident, George Charles Berger, Jr., passed away in Scottsdale on December 7, 2015 at the age of 95. The son of George and Gesina Berger he was born November 12, 1920 in Old Bethpage, New York. He was raised in Farmingdale, Long Island, NY and graduated from Farmingdale High School in 1938. Due to asthma he moved to Arizona to attend Arizona State Teachers College at Flagstaff (now Northern Arizona University). He met his wife of 61 years, Alice Overstreet, on a blind date. In 1942 he graduated with a BA in education; and in 1947 earned a masters degree (attending both NAU and Columbia University). He served briefly in the U.S. Army in 1943, receiving an honorable discharge.
Throughout his life George loved being active and giving to his community.
