Elder George Barnes Jr. was born July 11, 1940 in Malcolm to the late Lillie and George Barnes Sr. On Saturday, April 27, 2019, he exchanged this life for eternity.

George attended school at McIntosh Union High School, graduating in 1958. His chosen profession was construction, where he worked until retirement in 2000. Confessing Christ at an early age, he united with Big John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Henry Walker, pastor. He later united with the Church of God Pentecostal in Malcom, under Bishop Elmer Lang, where he was ordained as a minister and remained faithful until his transition serving as an associate minister.

In 1959 he married the love of his life, Juanita Sullivan.

Preceding him in death were his parents Lillie and George Barnes Sr.; brothers, Dellavan Barnes and Clarence Barnes; sisters, Emma Cora Robinson and Annie Mae Roberts.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Juanita Sullivan Barnes; three devoted sons, Gerald (Mildred) Barnes, Timmie (Twyla) Barnes and Avis Barnes; four devoted daughters, Sherry (Kenneth) Miller, Paretta (Anthony) Burns, Debra Ann Barnes (Bobby) and Shamarion Barnes; one devoted sister, Shirley B. Thomas; brothers-in-law, Thomas (Mattie) Sullivan, Herman (Eva) Sullivan, Charles (Ruthie) Sullivan, Reginald (Lisa) Sullivan, Spencer Sullivan and Charles Turner; 15 grandchildren, three devoted, Geremy Lavaughn Barnes, Ebony Warren and Tuyon Barnes; one devoted nephew, Gary Robinson; four devoted friends, Warren Roberts, Frankie Reed, Horace Thomas and Otis Williams; with a host of nieces, one devoted, Cassandra Barnes, nephews, other relatives and friends.
