George Alton Munn, Jr. (Al) passed away Wednesday morning, August 18, 2021 at the NC State Veterans Home in Salisbury, NC.
Born May 5, 1932 to the late George Alton Munn and Odie Vinson Munn in Biscoe, NC, Al was raised in Cedar Grove, NC. He attended Austin Peay University (TN) and High Point University (NC). He served his country in the US Army (active duty) – 101st Airborne out of Ft. Campbell, KY – from 1953 through 1955, and then served in the Army Reserve through 1961.
Al leaves behind his daughter Deborah Munn Nelson (husband Barry) of Charlotte and his son Dr. Brett H. Munn (wife Laura) of Lewisville; three grandchildren – Olivia Stewart Jones, Abigail Munn McDowell, and Spencer Beasley Munn, all of the Lewisville/Winston-Salem area; and three great-grandchildren Layla, Lena and Malachi. He was married twice – to Reba Birdsall (remarried) and Martha Fortenberry.
He was preceded in death by his beloved younger brother, Clifton V. Munn.
Al lived in Clarksville (Nashville), TN; High Point, NC; Jamestown, NC; Tucker, GA, Randleman, NC; Indian Trail, NC and finally, Hamlet, NC before moving to the VA Home in Salisbury, NC. He served as an elder in the 1st Presbyterian Church of Hamlet.
