George Alfred Butler Sr. departed this life on Monday, September 1, 2015 at Easton Memorial Hospital in Easton MD. George was born on September 24, 1940 to the late John Wesley Butler and Sarah Catherine Murray Butler.
George completed his education at Lockerman High School. He married his first wife Myrtle (Baynard) Butler a.k.a. “Poogie”. George also known as “Chops” or “Huggy” was best known for his famous cooking. He BBQ’d from the East to West Coast. He loved shooting pool, throwing horse shoes and he was good at just about everything he did. He also loved making people laugh and he had a great sense of humor. He loved doing things for the kids in the community like back to school dances. In general, George just loved doing things for people.
George was self-employed and known for his famous landscaping until his health began to fail. “Chops” was also a drummer and he loved his music. He played with different groups like “The Loveman Band” and “The Heartbreakers”. The “Heartbreakers” were talented enough to cut a hit record called
“I Stand Alone”.
George leaves to cherish his memories; five children; Malessa Sampson (James), Jerome Butler Sr. (Chantell) both of Cambridge, MD, George Butler Jr., Jason Butler both of Denton, MD, Kevin Butler of Annapolis, MD; One step-son; Dameon Brown (Maya) of Seattle, Washington; four sisters; Sharon Brown of Denton, MD, Velma Wright of North Carolina, Mary Newbill of Ridgely, MD, and Elizabeth Humphrey of Annapolis, MD; three brothers-n-law; Earl Humphrey, George Brown and Charles Newbill; two sisters-in-law; Sharon Brown and Esther Nichols; nine grandchildren; Asia Sampson, Takina Sampson, James Sampson Jr., Jerome Butler Jr., Zayona Butler, Nagwa Butler, Georlisha Wallace, Kalia Butler, and Lamiarah Butler; three very special friends; Morris Hut, Allen Henry, and
Stevie Coursey; two special cousins; Sammy Murray and Manny Jones; two dear friends who helped him along the way for many years; Mrs. Martha Breed and
Mrs. Bette Felton and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by two sisters; Darlene and Doris Butler; one brother; William Wesley Butler, and his wife,
Pauline Brown Butler all of Denton, MD.
Chops, you truly will be missed by everyone.
