George A. Guzman, a resident of Beacon, NY and formerly of Amsterdam, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 31, 2022 at the Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY; he was 72 years old. He was born Jorge A. Guzman on August 11, 1949 in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, son of Milagros (Arguelles) Guzman and the late Gregorio Guzman. When he emigrated to the United States, he Americanized his name as ‘George’.

On March 9, 1969 in Brooklyn, NY, he married Carmen G. Escribano, who survives him at home.

George worked for the New York State Department of Transportation facility in Fishkill, NY; as a heavy equipment operator driver, for many years until he retired. Prior to that he worked at the Lock 11 in Amsterdam, NY.

Aside from his work, George enjoyed time at the Off-Track Betting, the horse races and playing his numbers. He also was an avid Sci-Fi fan, enjoyed reading of UFOs and Sasquatch.

As a teen, George was a boxer, having competed in several Golden Glove bouts before having to retire from it due to an injury. But his love of sports continued throughout his whole life; being a big fan of boxing, football, basketball and the Mets.

Along with his beloved wife of 53-years Carmen Guzman and his mother Milagros Guzman, George is survived by his two children George A. Guzman Jr; Brenda Guzman and her partner Kenneth Eller; his brother Gregorio Guzman and his wife Carmen, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends, especially Lydia Flores.

He also leaves behind his beloved dog Snoopy. He loved his animals, dogs and birds; he was predeceased by Princess, Scooter, Chloe, Spooky I, Spooky II, Rosita, Gamara, and his birds Piki & Pika. George thoroughly enjoyed his time with his animals, and even feeding the squirrels too.
