Genevieve Rbetty Sherner, life-long resident of Ogden and descendent of pioneer ancestors, passed away at age 99 in Ogden on July 10, 2022.

She was born on Nov. 10, 1922 in Ogden, the youngest daughter of eight children born to Lawrence William and Rozina Diana Shaw Sherner.

Genevieve grew up at the family home on 2nd Street and graduated in 1940 from the new Ogden High School.  Shortly after her graduation she was hired as a clerk at Hill Air Force Base. One of her duties was to move ammunition for the military during WWII. She retired from HAFB after 33 years of dedicated service.

Genevieve was a devoted and patriotic American and life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was always obedient, faithful and a tithe-paying member of the church. Her father was the bishop of her ward from 1916-1926. A new ward chapel was built during his time as bishop and now serves as the Bank of Utah at 5-Points. In her later years, her home teacher, David Collins, was a close friend who helped her to be able to live in her home and be self-reliant.  He also helped her to be able to listen to church services at her home. Her good friend, Anna Keough, was a wonderful friend and helper. Many thanks to both of them.

Genevieve never married and did not have any children.  She taught Primary and served in other church positions as she was called to serve. Her father, Bishop Sherner, died in 1938; her mother, Rozina, passed away in 1952. She was preceded in death by her 7 brothers and sisters. She lived in the family home on 2nd Street until her death. Genevieve loved beautiful things and she had a wonderful garden for 50 years. She did amazing handiwork and enjoyed reading and researching family history.
