Genevieve “Jenny” Decker, nee Nawojski, age 93, passed away peacefully with her family by her side and into the arms of God, Friday, April 3, 2015. She was born September 4, 1921 in Chicago, IL to Joseph and Veronica Nawojski. Genevieve grew up in South Deering, and was a long time resident of South Holland, also living in Warrenville, IL, Walnut Creek, CA and most recently in Naperville, IL, at St. Patrick”s Residence. Beloved wife of the late Owen K. Decker Sr. Loving mother of Mary Therese (Gary) Swager of Danville, CA, Owen Kenneth (Sandra) Decker Jr. of Beverly Shores, IN, and Deborah Lee (Howard) Booth of Summit, NJ. Cherished grandmother of Jason, Jeffrey, Alexandra, and Mitchell, Lori, Tom, Tina, Tracy, Scot, and five great-grandchildren were touched by her grandmotherly care and kindness. Dearest sister of Cecelia Brandon, the late Frank (Delsie), late Andrew (late Lorraine), late John (late Virginia), and the late Walter Nawojski. Kind aunt of many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Veronica Nawojski. The joy and fulfillment of Genevieve”s life were her children and grandchildren. She loved her Catholic faith. She and her husband, Owen, worked tirelessly as one of the founding families of Holy Ghost Parish. She was a Eucharistic Minister and was also very proud of her Polish heritage and enjoyed sharing the food and traditions with her family. She loved reminiscing about working at General Mills and Elizabeth Seton High School where she was the cafeteria manager. Genevieve volunteered at both Manor Care and St. Patrick”s Residence, caring for the elderly. Her favorite memories were her ballroom dancing, Trumball Park, Riverview, riding streetcars and summers at Calumet Beach. Genevieve”s love and her contributions will not be forgotten or lessened by her passing. Her legacy will live through all those who were fortunate to know her, and those who loved her.
