Genevieve was born October 9, 1918 in Snowshoe, Pennsylvania to Ralph and Lula Mae McCartney Etters. She was one of nine brothers and sisters.
Genevieve married Walter Alexander in Williamsport and had three sons, Walter, Tom and Dennis. She also cared for numerous foster children.
Surviving are two sisters, Martha (Barney) Burden and Rita Shoulder; two of her sons, Walter and Dennis; seven grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Genevieve and her husband Walter moved to Cogan House in 1961. She was very active with the Cogan House Christian Church where she was a Deaconess, Sunday school teacher and President/member of the Ladies Aide. Her fondest memories were organizing Vacation Bible School and the times she spent at the Sylvan Hill Church Camp, where she volunteered as Director, counselor and cook.
Although Cogan House was her home, she moved to Alaska in 2003 to be closer to family and settled in the Two Rivers Community in November 2004. There she quickly took root and became the adopted “Gram” to most of the residents. She kept busy making quilts, pillows and sock monkeys, but was best known for the pies that she loved to bake and became known as the “Pie Lady.”
