Gene V. Carlson, age 88, a former Salem resident, died Saturday afternoon March 10, 2012 at the Fairlawn Nursing Home in Archbold, Ohio. Gene was born Feb. 10, 1924 in Clarkson, Ohio, the daughter of the late Charles and Rena (Vaughn) Souders. Gene was a homemaker and a member of the Phillips Christian Church.
She was a 1941 graduate of New Waterford High School. Her husband, Wilmer (Ike) Carlson, whom she married May 14, 1942, preceded her in death on Aug. 2, 2003. Survivors include a son, Roger Carlson and his wife Kathleen Moreau of Bryan, Ohio; two daughters, Linda (Al) Coleman of Wilmington, OH, and Nancy Carlson of Columbus; a half- brother, Charles Souders of Rochester, MI; 4 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by her stepmother, Tessie Souders; three sisters, Marie Grant, Ida Dangle and Clara Rosenbaum; and a half-brother, Carlos Stewart.
