“For Thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me” (Psalm 23:4).

Cradled in the arms of her Lord Jesus, Gene Elton Smith Little was made perfect for eternity on Thursday, July 21, 2016. Gene grew up in Pinson, Alabama, and could recall much history about the city, from the “the good ol’ days” when Main Street was just a dirt road, to the development of roads, schools, and churches. She was a graduate of Howard College, and while there, was a member of Beta Sigma Omicron and was crowned Miss Howard. In April 1946, she married George M. Little who affectionately called her “Shug.” She was a devoted wife and mother to four sons, and beloved “Nana” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gene dearly loved her husband and family, many friends at church and in her community, and most of all, her Lord Jesus. She was an active member of Pinson United Methodist Church, the Challengers Sunday Class, United Methodist Women, and supported the Pinson Civitan Club. Preceding her in death are her parents, R. E. “Bob” and Lucille Smith, sisters Margaret Louise Smith and Mary Sue Smith Green, husband George Milton Little, Sr., son George Milton Little, Jr., and great-grandsons Jacob William Savage and Benjamin Lane Savage. Family survivors include sons Jerry Elton Little (Jada) of Trussville, Jeffrey Scott Little (Le-Ann) of Birmingham, and Jason Smith Little (Stacy) of Daphne; grandchildren Jennifer Little Savage (Jay), Jay Little, Lauren Little Collins (Stephen), JoAnna Little, Audra Little, Madeline Little, and Luke Little; great-grandchildren Brody Savage and Caroline Savage; niece Dolly Green Northcutt, and several other nieces and nephews.
