Gene Shafer, age 61, of Alpena, AR passed away at his home on Monday, June 19, 2017. He was born at Alpena, AR, son of the late Burney Jeff and Florence (Wheatley) Shafer.
Gene grew up in the Carrollton Community, outside of Alpena and attended Alpena Schools. On February 24, 1979 he was united in marriage with Mary Ann Barker and to this union two children were born. He enjoyed spending time with his family, working on cars and racing cars. He was employed at Automatic Castings in Green Forest for 9 years and most recently worked at “Alpena Chainsaw Art”.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Shafer of the home, son, Jesse Shafer of Alpena, daughter, Vanessa Lee and husband Carl of Alpena, one sister, Floretta Peden and husband Leon of Oak Grove, AR, one brother, Bobby Shafer and wife Teresa of Alpena, grandchildren, Logan and Arianna Shafer, Isabella, Jasonia, Landan and Tayleana Lee, great-grandson, Aiden Lee as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Burney and Florence Shafer.
