Gene Salay, 78, of Bethlehem, died Thursday, June 24, 2010, in St. Luke’s Hospital in Fountain Hill. He was the husband of Ellie (Hafner) Salay for 56 years. Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Alex and Elizabeth (Rucz) Salay. Gene was an Army veteran, who honorably served his country in Korea, where he received the Purple Heart. He worked in the Accounting Dept. for the Bethlehem Steel Corp. Later, he was the Director or Veterans Affairs for Lehigh County for many years until retiring. Survivors: wife Ellie at home; sisters Helen Salay, Elizabeth McAdam both of Bethlehem and Margaret Szabo of Allentown. He was predeceased by his daughter Lisa in 1997.
