Gene Robbs, a native Chattanoogan, passed away Tuesday morning, February 8, 2011 from complications of Alzheimer’s. He would have been 87 years old this month. He was the husband of Eileen Burkhalter for 65 years. His children are Ronnie & Sherri, and he was the grandfather of Ashlee, Erin, Kevin, Megan and surviving grandchildren Andrew, Clay & Matthew. He was the father-in-law to Scott & Popey. His parents were Charlie & Vera who preceded him in death with his siblings, Jack, Christine, Lee, Bill & Ronnie. His surviving sisters are Joyce & Lonita. Gene was a child of the depression & he served in WWII in the US Coast Guard. He loved golf, NASCAR, college football, sailing & race walking on Daytona Beach 5 miles per day. Although Alzheimer’s is a cruel disease, he became sweeter & more patient as the years went by. His family will be forever grateful to the Veterans Administration, Hospice, Etowah Health Care Center & Trinity Hills Assisted Living, Knoxville for the loving care shown to Gene & his family.
