Gene McGlauchlen, 65, of Arenzville, IL died Sunday, October 26, 2008 at Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville, IL.

He was born August 9, 1943 in Jacksonville; the son of Charles Eldon and Mildred Peek McGlauchlen. He married Rita Marlene Smith on March 6, 1965 in Springfield, IL and later renewed his vows in the Catholic church on March 3, 1994.

He is survived by his wife, Rita; a daughter, Marlena Sandahl Ayling (husband, Peter) and grandson, Jon, all of Enid, OK; a brother, Kenneth Clark McGlauchlen (wife, Cindi) of Eagen, MN; two sisters, Ann Marie Tardiff (husband, Dennis) of Woodson and Iva Christine Barnes (husband, Hal) of White Hall; and several nieces nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Kathy.

A 1961 graduate of Winchester High School, Gene worked in the grocery business since the age of 14, currently with the IGA in Beardstown. He previously worked with Carole Jean IGA in Jacksonville and the IGA in Winchester. He was well known and loved by the community and his co-workers. Over the years he operated several business, the last being Spatzâ??s Ice Cream store. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Gene enjoyed family, the outdoors, gardening, caring for the neighborhood wildlife, fishing and NASCAR. An accomplished artist, Gene did mainly commissioned art and had a love for fine art. Many of his vacations consisted of attending art seminars with his wife. He also loved to spend time with his pets, Holly and Carson.
