Gene E. Meyer, August 25, 1934 – March 6, 2017.
Mr. Meyer died Monday, March 6, 2017 at his home.
Mr. Meyer was born August 25, 1934 in Holland, to Adolph Meyer Jr and Bertice Meyer. Through the years the family lived in Taylor, Houston and Temple, Texas. He attended Central Junior High School and graduated from Temple High School in 1953. He attended the University of Houston on a football scholarship. Gene made many lifelong friendships during these years.
Gene met JoAnn Boren when they both were attendants in their friends’ wedding in the summer of 1954. They were married January 29, 1955 In Temple.
Gene worked in the Transportation Industry serving as a Terminal Manager and in District Sales. During this time the family lived in several different cities in Texas. Also they lived in North Carolina and Memphis, TN before returning to Belton in 1979. At this time he began a new adventure with Indeco Sales, Inc. owned by his friend Lee Mayes. He enjoyed that association for 12 years.
Gene was a member of the Belton Church of Christ and served as a deacon for several years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Sam Meyer.
Gene is survived by his wife JoAnn a son Mark Meyer and his wife Cheryl of Temple; a daughter Melissa Foster and her husband Mark of Omaha, NE.; Four grandchildren, Ashton Meyer of Austin and Jake Meyer of Belton, Laura Foster and Landon Foster of Omaha, NE. two sisters Ruby McConnell of Temple and Winona Pagel and husband Delvin Pagel of Temple and a brother A. W. Meyer of Hutto and several nieces and nephews.
