Genada Nesbitt Evans, daughter of the late, Chance and Sarah Mack Nesbitt-Owens was born September 23, 1922 in Cross, SC. She departed this life on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at MUSC, Charleston, Sc.
Genada accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and became a member of Immanuel R.E. Church. She was always a devoted and cheerful giver to Immanuel and served as a class leaded, vestry meember, an usher, choir member, and Sunday School teacher. Her wish for the church was to see the children become more active in the church. She was also a former member of the Community Gospel Singers of Cross, SC. She loved to sing and two of her favorite songs were “You Brought Me Over” and “I Am Redeemed.”
In her 92 years of life, she spent four years in Portsmouth, VA. Most of her life, she spent as a housewife and working on the farm. She loved to sew quilts, crochet and travel.
She was married to the late Thomas Evans, Sr., in January 1944. To this union, they were blessed with nine children of which three sons preceded her in death, Isaiah (Arlene), Chance (Janie-deceased), and Frances. She is also preceded in death by seven siblings: one brother, Rev. Paul Nesbitt and six sisters, Rebecca Reid, Laura Prileau, Flora Howell, Maebell McCray, Rhena Washington and Julia Owens.
Those who will cherish her memories include: her loving children: Betty Jean (Isaac) Lee, Geneva Murchison, Thomas Evans, Jr., Nemiah (Inez) Evans, Stella L. Myers and Joseph Evans; two sisters, Lottie Hamilton (99+ years old) and Victoria Waites; 18 grandchildren and 28 great-grand children and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
