Gayle Jenkins, a long-time teacher at Norfolk High School, passed away January 17, 2015 at Heritage of Bel Air.
She was born on the family farm in Republic County Kansas, just south of Chester, Nebraska, August 3, 1922, to Gladys (Linton) and Frances W. Jenkins. After graduating from Chester High School, she taught
all grades in District 58 in Thayer County, Nebraska from 1941-43. From 1943-47 she taught at her alma mater in Chester. She earned her undergraduate degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1948 and completed her Masters in Education degree at UNL in 1955. Gayle came to teach in Norfolk the fall of 1948. She was a highly respected English teacher in the district for 42 years, retiring in 1990. She received numerous accolades throughout her teaching career.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Glen Jenkins, and sister Hazel Mae Jenkins.
She is survived by a niece Glenda (Jenkins) Mahagan and husband Larry of Bellevue, nephew Donald and wife Donnette Jenkins of Lincoln, nephew William Jenkins of Bellevue, 2 great nieces, 3 great nephews, 4 great great nephews, 2 great great nieces, and special friends Herb and Kay Hall, and Vauri Henre.
Memorial may be directed to the Chester Methodist Church.
