Gayle H. Flamion, 76, of 2142 E. Ash Maple Lane, died at 7:26 a.m. Friday (Aug. 24, 2007) in Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born July 8, 1931, in Evansville to August Joseph and Mary Matilda (Holman) Flamion. He married Phyllis J. Edsall on May 22, 1954, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Goshen.
She survives, along with two sons, John (Doris Slater) Flamion and James Flamion, both of Elkhart; two daughters, Gayle Windsor of Elkhart and Sue (Dan) Yamtich of Fair Oaks; and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Phillip J. Flamion; and a sister, Geraldine Helbling.
Mr. Flamion worked as an accountant for several Elkhart businesses over the years. He was a member and Eucharistic minister at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, where he was active in the RCIA and the Great Books Program. He also was a member of Elkhart Knights of Columbus Council 1043, the Data Processing Management Association and a member and past president of the National Association of Accountants.
He was a 1949 graduate of Concord High School and was active in scouting when his sons were younger. He enjoyed playing cards and was an avid and lifelong Detroit Tigers fan who saw them play in every Major League stadium in which they ever played a game.
