Gay Nell Sickels (nee: Shafer), 84, of Atlantic Highlands, formerly of Red Bank, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022.
Born in Alva, OK to Col. Howard T. and Mildred Shafer, Gay was one of four children. Growing up in an Army family, Gay lived in many places throughout the country and abroad until settling down in Red Bank. She met and married Norman Sickels and they raised their family in Red Bank, sharing many happy times and memories in the community. Gay retired in 2017 from JGS Insurance after 14 years as an Administrative Assistant.
Gay was pre-deceased by her beloved son, Daniel, in 2006 and by her beloved husband of 61 years, Norman, in 2018, as well as two siblings, Tom and Janet.
Gay is survived by her loving children, Deborah Robinson and husband Andrew and Christopher Sickels and wife Christine, as well as 4 cherished grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Gay is also survived by her sister Ann (Frank) Woodward and siblings-in-law, David (Liz) Sickels, Russ (Susie) Sickels, Betsy (Kathy) Sickels and Stan (Donna) Sickels. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
