Gay Gweneth Rutledge, 92, of Caldwell, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2012.  

Gay was born January 3, 1920, at Downey, Idaho to Adolph Bonman and Edith Bonner.  She spent her early years in Bonners Ferry, Pullman, Washington, Spokane, Washington,  and Pocatello.  The family finally settled in Boise Idaho in 1932. Gay graduated from Boise High School in 1936 and attended the University of Idaho, South Branch, in Pocatello from 1936 to 1938. She taught school for two years at Moreland, Idaho. She then attended the University of Idaho and graduated in 1943.

During the war, she worked as a Junior Director and then a Senior Director of Enlisted Men’s Club at Gowen Field until being transferred to France for work with the enlisted mens club until returning to the US in 1946.  

She married Richard Rutledge on September 13, 1947. They assisted his parents in managing the Evergreen Motor Court until they began farming at Meridian from 1950 to 1959.  In 1959 they moved to Caldwell and continued ranching. Richard and Gay had four children, Christina, Robin, Todd and Jill.

After her retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling.

At the age of 60, Gay began competitive running, and did so into her late 70’s.  She also loved hiking, cross country skiing, reading, dancing and geneology.

Gay is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard, and her son Todd.  She is survived by her brother Jack Bonman and his wife Ann, her daughters Christina Rutledge, Robin Patrick Miesbach (Robert) and Jill Schmitt (Dean).  She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Ryan Patrick, Megan Richmond, Greta Miller, Erica Catt, Shane Rutledge, and 6 great-grandchildren.
