Gary Wayne Kunkel, 66, went to play guitar for the angels on Monday, March 14, 2016. He was a resident of Franklin. Gary was born on November 9, 1949 in Indianapolis to Ray Jr. and Dorothy Jean (Harold) Kunkel.

Gary was a U.S. Army Veteran, who served in the Vietnam War from 1970 to 1971.

He was a blacksmith welder at Amtrak for 25 years. Gary had a love for music and played and collected guitars. He had a passion for muscle cars, building and repairing many over his lifetime.

Gary was a member of Church of the Bible in Franklin, baptized in 2006.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Delisa “Dee” (Delph) Kunkel  of Franklin, son, Ray P. (Sharae) Kunkel of Greenwood, daughters; Angela “Angie” (Jeff) Glessner of Shelbyville, Rebecca (Jeff) Dobbins of Greenwood, and Chelsea Kunkel of Franklin, 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; his mother Dorothy Jean Kunkel; four sisters, Lois Devine, Marilyn (Virgil) Lynn, Cheryl (Dan) Farley, and Linda Doty and several nieces and nephews. Gary is also survived by his mother-in-law, Jackie Breker, and his 6 cats.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Judith Kay (Bisbee) Kunkel and his father, Ray Kunkel, Jr.
