Gary Stephen Flowers, 68, of Anderson, Indiana, passed away on December 18, 2020, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, IN. He was born on March 23, 1952, in Anderson, Indiana, where he resided all of his life. Gary graduated from Lapel High School in 1970. Gary also completed technical degree programs at Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis.
Gary was a farmer for over 45 years in partnership with his father, Hoy Flowers, who preceded him in death. After retiring from farming, Gary enjoyed his career as the corporate maintenance supervisor at Red Gold in Elwood until 2017. Gary was the utilities superintendent for the Town of Lapel for many years. He was also a retired member of the Lapel Fire Department and served as the elected Fire Chief for the last 10 years of his seventeen year career. Gary was a faithful servant leader in all aspects of his life with a focus on faith, family and community. He was a member of Bethany Christian Church where he most recently served as an elder.
Gary is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife, Brenda Pitcock Flowers, whom he married on Valentine’s Day 1971, his children: Brian Flowers, Nicole (Chad) Dillon; his three grandchildren: Alyssa Flowers, Madison Dillon, and Adam Dillon, and his mother, Helen Rushton Flowers. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. Being an only child, Gary had a special place in his heart for three cousins that he considered as his “adopted” brother and sisters: James D. Harless, Laura Harless Gloff, and Kelly Harless Tumulty.
