Gary Robert “Bob” Anderson of Youngsville, NC passed away on July 30, 2022. Born in Charleston, WV, he was the youngest son of the late Opie and Elsie Bernice Harper Anderson
He is survived by his son, Robert Todd Anderson and his wife Kathey, of Salisbury, NC; daughter, Erin Leigh Anderson and husband Kevin Brock, of Columbia, SC. Preceding him in death were one sister, Virginia, and three brothers, William Harold “Bill” Anderson, James Edward Anderson, and Paul Curtis Anderson.
A native of West Virginia, Bob was a graduate of Fairmont State College. He was active in many community activities but his passion was with the Jaycee Organization. His activity in this organization was on the local level in Clarksburg, WV where he garnered many awards for his service. These included project chairman of the year on several occasions, Speak Up Jaycee winner, and Outstanding Young Man. He served the local chapter as President and assisted in guiding them to the award of Most Outstanding Chapter in the state of WV during that year and was recognized as the Outstanding Local President by the same group.
Bob also served the Jaycees on the state and national levels. Bob’s highest honor during his tenure with this group was being named a Jaycee International Senator. This was the highest honor that could be bestowed upon a member and was recognized internationally.
Upon his retirement the Board of Directors of the Construction Academy honored Bob by establishing a scholarship in his name. This scholarship is awarded annually to an outstanding Senior member of the academy.
After his retirement Bob worked at his children’s high school alma mater, William G. Enloe, as the Varsity Women’s Soccer Coach and as an assistant football coach. He felt that this was an excellent opportunity to thank the school for the educational opportunities they provided for his children.
