Gary Ostrowski died at the age of 59 at his home in Plymouth, surrounded by loved ones after a long fight against medullary thyroid carcinoma. Born in Sewickley, PA, to Donald and Helen (Rodio) Ostrowski, Gary was raised in Ambridge, PA and attended Quigley High School. He studied industrial engineering at Pennsylvania State University, and never missed a chance to boast that he “bled blue and white.” He could be found most Saturdays in the fall cheering on his Nittany Lions football team from his living room while questioning play calls with his father and brothers over the phone. “We are…!”The second oldest of four sons, Gary was a loving brother who cherished his family above all else. Finding deep meaning in his Polish and Ukrainian heritage, he adored holidays with family including the beloved Polish Christmas Eve celebration, Wigilia, and the Ukrainian egg-decorating tradition, Pysanky. After college, Gary worked as an engineer at Dresser-Wayne in Salisbury, MD where he earned several patents for his contributions to gasoline pump designs. Upon later moving to Massachusetts, he worked as a plant manager at Dresser-Masoneilan, before ultimately assuming the role of Senior Product Manager of Aftermarket Operations. Over his thirty years of work, Gary was beloved among colleagues for his leadership by example, infectious passion, generous mentorship, and meaningful personal connections he cultivated with his co-workers. Gary touched many lives through his work, making friendships that transcended state and international borders. In 2018 he was named person of the year by his employer for his continued exemplary work and perseverance despite his recent cancer diagnosis several months earlier. He met his first wife, Sharon, in Ocean City, MD, whom he eventually married in 1989. Sharon and Gary moved to Salisbury, MD where they had two beautiful sons, Simon and Griffin. A dedicated husband and father, Gary made a point to attend as many of his sons’ baseball games as possible every spring and summer, often found behind home plate taking action shots and providing constructive criticism about their swings. Gary was a faithful Catholic, attending Mass regularly. He always took the opportunity to share a particularly meaningful homily with his family, and exemplified generosity of spirit in everything he met his second wife, Maurine, in 2010 and quickly fell in love. A true beach-lover, Gary spent countless weeks on the Cape with Maurine and family during the summer. Maurine and Gary loved sneaking away for a long weekend to Martha’s Vineyard or the Maine coast, and Gary took every opportunity to go golfing along the way. They were able to marry shortly before Gary’s is survived by his beloved wife, Maurine and her beautiful children Hannah, Kevin, and Kyle; his loving sons, Griffin and Simon and their mother, Sharon; Gary’s adoring parents, Donald and Helen Ostrowski; and his three faithful brothers, David and his wife Lynae, Jeff and Glenn. He also leaves his loving niece, Olivia. Similarly loved and missed are Gary’s extended family, friends, and co-workers. He is forever grateful for the kind care he was provided by his primary care physician, Dr. Ulrike Kohler and his teams at Dana-Farber, Beth Israel Deaconess, Massachusetts General Hospital, South Shore Hospital, and Cranberry Hospice.
