Gary Lee Jergens,54 Rockwell City, formerly of West Bend, died Friday, October 7, 2016 at Stewart Memorial Hospital in Lake City, Iowa. Gary Jergens, the son of Lewis and Carol Otto Jergens was born March 2, 1962, in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He was educated in Emmetsburg and graduated from high school in 1983. Gary lived in group homes, mainly Opportunity Living in Rockwell City from 1983 until the present. He is survived by his mother Carol Jergens of West Bend and sister Cindy Jergens and her special friend Kevin of Knoxville, Iowa. Gary was a huge Iowa Hawkeye fan and was widely known for his love of riding bicycles. He rode, wore out and replaced 17 bikes in the time he was riding. The highlight of his life was winning a silver medal for the softball throw in the International Special Olympics in Brockport, New York in 1982. Many people remember his usual saying around town as “I’m watching you.” Preceding Gary in death was his father Lewis and his grandparents.
