Gary Lee Hegg, 67 of Laporte, MN passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at his home with his family by his side. He was born on October 11, 1945 in Grand Forks, ND the son of Lorrey and Gladys (Osmundson) Hegg.
He graduated from Laporte High School in 1963 and traveled until he enlisted into the United States Army in November 1965. Gary served in Vietnam before being honorably discharged from the service in August 1967. Following the service Gary married Sandy Nelson in Sisseton, SD together they resided in Laporte, MN. In April of 1986 Gary married Ruth Roller at the Kabekona Church in Laporte and together they raised their six children. Gary was a wonderful wood worker who spent endless amounts of hours in his shop. He owned and operated Hegg Construction which he started in 1994. Gary has always enjoyed farming where he raised beef cattle and hogs for many years. He loved fishing and deer hunting. Gary custom made his own heated deer stand. There wasn’t much that Gary couldn’t make or fix. He cherished spending time with his family especially his grandchildren who he would often take four wheeling. Gary touched many people. His friends and family will deeply miss him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson Jordon.
Gary is survived by his wife Ruth of Laporte, sons; Curt (Stephanie) Hegg of Walker, Troy (Sebrina) Hegg of Akeley and Shawn (Jennifer) Hegg of Laporte, daughter; Shannon Hegg of Blackduck, step daughters; Laura Meyers of Laporte, Lisa (Kevin) Warne of Bemidji, Melissa (Mike) Blessington of Madison, SD, brother; Erwin (Barb) Hegg of Laporte, sisters; Shirley (Dean) Schmidt of Laporte, and Gayle (Lloyd) Frey of Laporte, twenty grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
