Gary L. Shirek, age 62, of Vesper passed away unexpectedly Monday, August 15, 2022 at his home.
Gary was born on January 20, 1960 in Marshfield, WI to Frank and Mathilda “Tillie” (Vakoc) Shirek. He graduated from Spash High School in Stevens Point, WI. After graduation, he married Patricia Kurzinski. Together they had four children. The marriage later ended in divorce. He was united in marriage to Jeanette Smith on May 19, 1998. They were blessed with 24 years of marriage.
Gary had a love for music and was a very talented trumpet player and musician and played in several polka bands: Old Time Brass, Jolly Chaps, Golden Aces, Hermie Bella, and the Little Old Bohemia band which was started by his dad. He was honored to play taps for the Milladore and Rudolph American Legion posts. Gary was an active member of his church and the Knights of Columbus earning his 4th degree.
Gary is survived by his loving wife Jeanette; daughters: Lisa (Mike) Shirek, Amy (Toua) Vang, Amanda (Jeremiah) Oligney; son Matthew (May Yer) Oligney; step-children: Tori (Jeremiah) Peterson and Brittany (Tony) Vollert; brothers: Donnie (Barb) Shirek and Dale (Karen) Shirek; sisters: Sharon (Robert) Hollar, Janice (Len) Rozek; sister-in-law Phyllis Shirek, brother-in-law Dennis “Denny” Danczyk and 13 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother: Frank (Butch) Shirek; sister: Ruth Danczyk; stepson: Ethan Smith and his faithful four- legged companion, Mugzi.
The family would like to thank the Marshfield pulmonary unit, especially Sharon and Jackie and Aspirus Wausau Hospital and his god child Adam for all the care support given to Gary and the rest of the family.
