Gary L. Fred, 70, of Centralia passed away Sunday, September 19, 2021, in SSM St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. Gary Fred was born July 13, 1951, in Sesser, IL, the son of Noble Richard Fred and Lois (Clampet) Fred.
Gary was not married but did have a life partner: Gloria Abercrombie. She survives him in Centralia.
In addition to his life partner, Gloria Abercrombie, Gary is survived by seven nieces and nephews: Kathy Stewart of Du Quoin, Richard Fred of Sesser, Carroll Fred and wife Terri of Sesser, Paulette Newbury and husband Jim of Scheller, Billy Elliott and wife Susan of California, Jimmy Elliott of California, and Polly Stamp and husband Sonny of Arizona; and many great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents: Noble and Lois Fred; one brother Richard D. “Tobe” Fred; one sister-in-law: Linda Fred; one sister: Pauline Elliott; and one brother-in-law: Bill Elliott.
Gary was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. He served from 1971 to 1976 from which he was honorably discharged. He held numerous different jobs throughout his life. He was mainly a truck driver for twenty years. He was a gentle soul and often liked to watch the birds and flowers out his window.
