SALEM – Gary Joseph Knizat, age 73, died at 2:37 a.m. Thursday, September 20, 2018 at his home and pronounced at Salem Regional Medical Center.
Gary was born August 14, 1945 in Salem, the son of the late Joseph Knizat.
He was a 1963 graduate of Crestview High School and a 1967 graduate of Mount Union College with a major in Chemical Engineering and a minor in Religion.
For more than thirty years, Gary was a dedicated professional for corporations such as Pittsburgh Paint & Glass, Firestone Tire & Rubber, and Forest Development Technology. He served in many capacities such as chief chemist, quality control officer, and research/development supervisor.
In his retirement, Gary maintained what he fondly referred to as “his office” at the local Dunkin Donut. It was there that he and his “colleagues” would debate life’s most critical questions such as: Will the Cleveland Browns ever win a football game this year?
Throughout his life, Gary was deeply loved, admired and respected by many. He was a car enthusiast and an avid gardener. He enjoyed NASCAR and was a huge Dale Earnhardt fan.
Gary was a devoted husband and brother. Survivors include his wife, Vicki (Cobourn) Knizat, whom he married October 18, 1969; his sister, Kathy (Knizat) Szlosek; and, his brother-in-law, John Szlosek.
