Gary Lee Hyde, age 83, a longtime resident of Greenbush Township, died peacefully on July 9, 2024.Gary was born on January 20, 1941 in St. Johns, Michigan, the oldest of two sons born to R.G. and Rosella (Desprez) Hyde. Gary was known for his love of Greenbush Township and its people. His unwavering convictions, and willingness to fight for what he believed was right, endeared him to all who crossed his path. A 1959 graduate of Rodney B. Wilson High School, Gary enlisted with the Army National Guard after high school before returning home to work on the farm. He never moved far from family, and had a strong sense of family, something instilled in him by his grandparents who helped to raise him.Gary had a deep-seated love for work and the outdoors. He grew up on the Hyde Road farm, where he devoted many years of his life. His passion for labor and machinery led him to establish GL Hyde Inc, an excavating company he proudly owned for over thirty years. His love for his car, tractors, and excavators was only rivaled by his love for the farm and the joy he derived from working in the dirt. Gary also served as the Greenbush Township Supervisor for many years and was an active member of the Sleepy Hollow Conservation Club, NRA, Clinton Area Ambulance Board, and Board of Assessors.On November 25, 1961, Gary married Judy Tiedt and together, they raised their family on Hyde Road. Gary loved his family dearly and especially enjoyed holidays with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was very social, never shying away from starting conversations with anyone. He was quick-witted and had quite the collection of funny sayings. He had a fondness for his hunting friends, and particularly enjoyed turkey hunting up north and trips to Wisconsin. His love for firearms extended to trap shooting, where he collected numerous trophies. Gary was known for his cute sayings, his love for Greenbush Township, and his unwavering opinions and he will be missed by many.He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly sixty three years, Judy Hyde; daughter, Therese (Bill) Henning; son, Timothy Lee (Judy) Hyde; grandchildren, Holly, Karli and Tori Henning, Garret (Alyssa) Hyde, Megan (Chris) Williams and Luke (Grace) Hyde; great-grandchildren, Collins and Brooks Hyde, Sutton Williams and one on the way; sister-in-law, Linda Hyde; brothers-in-law, Allen Tiedt and Larry (Gladys) Tiedt, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Hyde and parents.
