Gary Gene Tomaszewski, 68, of Cherry, passed away Friday, December 30, 2016 at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley.
Mr. Tomaszewski was born October 2, 1948 in Peru to Leo Anthony and Lila Marie (Netherton) Tomaszewski. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ in Peru.
Gary graduated from St. Bede Academy in 1966 and received a Certificate of Completion from the University of Illinois.
Gary was drafted in 1967 and served in the United States Air Force. He was part of the Wild Weasels Tactics and Techniques Special Forces based out of George Air Force Base in Victorville, CA. Before retiring, Gary worked as a consulting engineer with numerous road contractors. Previously, he worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Gary coached Little League in Peru and Cherry for many years and also had been a volunteer fireman in Cherry. He loved his family, children, animals, games, trivia, reading, coffee at Casey’s, the Cubs and eating dessert before dinner.
Survivors include his sister, Mary Ann Tomaszewski-Redshaw of Oglesby; his brother, Daniel Leo Tomaszewski of Cherry; nieces and a nephew and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents. Pallbearers will be Bob Jacobs, Paul Tomaszewski, Mike Tomaszewski, Dan Kozel, Mandy Tomaszewski and Daniel Tomaszewski II.
