Gary Ellis Wakefield, 84, passed away July 19, 2022, at his home in Harrisville, Utah. He was born October 10, 1937, to George Ellis Wakefield and Phyllis Payne Wakefield in Logan, Utah.

He attended Weber High School and Weber State University. He served as a young man in the US Army, then worked most of his career as an Electronics Mechanic at Hill Air Force Base from where he retired in 1993.

Gary met Marlene Larsen in early February of 1964. They had a whirlwind courtship of only 20 days before eloping to Elko, Nevada on February 29th to begin their cherished 58 years of marriage together. They made their home in Harrisville where they raised two daughters, Dee and Rae, many dogs, goats, and the occasional eyebrow.

Gary was a loving husband who was devoted to making his bride happy. He spent many years going on camping trips just to make her smile. When Marlene decided she wanted a log home, there was a troop of family, friends, and neighbors that all came together to lift, stack and hammer logs to build the house that they spent the next forty years calling home.

In recent years he had learned to love Bear Lake and spent many weekends building cherished memories on the family property. He learned the fine art of camp chair lounging, firepit wine with loved ones, and relaxing looking out over the blue waters.

Gary was active and stubborn to the end and left this world in his own bed, snuggled up to his loving wife, holding hands. He is survived by his wife Marlene, daughters Rae (Ken) Malan and Dee (Mike) Chadwick; 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and siblings Dennis and Karen. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Karlene.
