Gary Louis “Bert” Bertolino, 49,of Peru, died October 23,2014 in his home surrounded by his loving family after a short battle with cancer.
Gary was born in LaSalle on March 3,1965 to Harold “Bert” and Barb(Osmond)Bertolino. He graduated from LaSalle-Peru Township High School in 1983 and started work with the Illinois Department of Transportation within weeks after graduation. Gary was employed by the state for 31 years.
On August 18,1990 he married Missy Olsen. Together they had 3 children; Zak age 22 attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Tony age 19 attending IVCC and Brianna age 19 attending IVCC. Gary was the Business Agent for Teamsters Local #916 for many years. He was a member of the Engineer’s Rod and Gun Club and served on their board. He was also a member of the Illinois State Highway Engineers Organization. Gary loved the outdoors, mostly he enjoyed fishing,and could often be found on the water or in his garage making jigs for his fishing buddies. He was a generous,kind,compassionate man often volunteering his time to help others in need.
Gary is survived by his wife of 24 years, Missy, their children Zak, Tony and Brianna, all of Peru; his parents Harold and Barb Bertolino of Peru; his brother Jim(Michelle)Bertolino of Springfield; his two sisters, Sherry(Jeff)Cole of Pine Island,FL and Linda(Dave)Dutzkiewicz; his parent-in-laws Ron and Connie Olsen of Peru; his brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Gina Olsen of Peru; his brother and sister in law Jeff and Jeana Olsen of Yorkville and numerous nieces and nephews.
