Gary Jensen, a resident of Bakersfield, California, passed away on January 28, 2017, from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. His passing was one day before his 78th birthday.
Tall, blonde and handsome would describe Gary’s physical characteristics. A heart of gold would describe his soul. Gary was born in Los Angeles, California to Woody and Gert Jensen. During his childhood, his family relocated to Taft due to his father accepting a management position with Safeway Stores. After his high school years, Gary enlisted in the United States Air Force and was assigned to the military police K-9 unit. A portion of his duty time was spent in Germany where he and his trusted K9 comrade, Dusty, guarded the air bases. Gary was very proud of this opportunity to serve his country.
Upon completing his tour of duty with the Air Force, Gary entered the private sector of life and accepted a position as a food broker in Los Angeles, California. He later changed his career path and began a job with TNT Bestway where he was a longtime employee. He retired in 2004.
Before and especially after retirement, Gary enjoyed several interests. His favorites were cycling, jogging, photography and especially yoga. Each year, he looked forward to his yoga retreat in Pacific Grove, California. Always a sport fan, he also enjoyed following golf, football, basketball and Dodger baseball.
Of course, Gary’s main focus was his family especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in so many of their activities as well as their education. Gary was in attendance at all of his grandson’s sport competitions. In fact, he never missed a game. He could also be found frequently assisting his granddaughter in caring for her lambs as part of her 4H project each year. Gary always offered his support selflessly and unconditionally.
Gary is survived by his devoted daughter, Karen(Tom); grandson, Garrett; granddaughter, Kristen(Dusten); soon to be born great granddaughter, Emma; son, Joe; siblings Lee(Jean) and Linda(Robert); nieces, Caitlin and Erin. His parents and two brothers preceded him in death.
