Gary Britton Carroll passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 27, 2016.
He spent his final days in comfort surrounded by his loving family and friends, and in the gentle care of the thoughtful staff of Margaret Dozier Hospice House in Tallahassee. Gary was born in Panama City, Florida, on May 20, 1947, to Okievan “Bud” and Jeanette Carroll. After traveling around the United States as an Air Force Brat, he graduated from South Dade High School in Miami in 1967 and Ringling School of Art in 1969. In 1997 Gary retired from Florida State University where he had worked as a Publications Production Manager, Graphic Artist, and Graphic Designer for 28 years. As a Freelance Artist, Gary illustrated numerous books and designed the Starburst Logo for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and many others. Gary was an avid fisherman, and it was well known that fish from Lake Talquin to Bay County feared his skill as an angler. Gary was also an expert model builder of incredibly accurate replicas of military planes, armored vehicles, and classic cars. He was a history buff who took a special interest in WWII, the Civil War, and European Middle Ages. Gary loved the Florida State Seminoles, Classic Rock, and movies. Gary left the world a better place for having lived in it. A great husband, father, and friend, Gary’s gift of art, loving nature, and sense of humor will live on through all who knew him.
Gary was predeceased by his parents and, is survived by his wife of 44 years, Juanda Carroll, daughter Allison Carroll, son-in-law Michael Hall, mother-in-law Jeraldine Cutchens, “brother of another mother” David Clark and his wife Sheryl, and long-time friends Robert Celander (Dee Dee), Karen Celander, Lynn Rogers (Kelly) and Robert “Bob” Bell.
