Gary Allan Hefner, age 54, of Grand Junction, CO went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 25, 2015, following a short illness.
Born September 17, 1960 in Durango, CO, Gary was the son of Lenora Jane Hefner of Grand Junction, and the late Evan Guy Hefner. He worked in many different areas of employment over the years. Two of the most memorable were working as an abatement technician in the Asbestos Mitigation industry, and being a roughneck in the Oil and Gas industry.
Gary was a man of many talents and interests. He liked camping, hiking and bicycling. He loved to ski, especially skiing the Powderhorn with his friend from Brazil. He loved to whittle and many interesting walking sticks took shape as a result of his craftsmanship.
People were attracted to Gary’s personality. He was very popular and had a friend on every corner. He was a prankster who loved to laugh and tease and Gary thought a good belly laugh was the best kind of medicine.
Gary loved Jesus. He also loved his family dearly; a shining example was the beautiful relationship he had with his mother.
After 28 years of separation, Gary recently was reunited with his only child, Kerstin Hefner. It was a loving and joyous reunion for both father and daughter. Gary’s only regret was not being able to meet Kerstin’s five children.
Gary and his soul mate, Carla lived happily together for the last 15 years. He loved Carla’s children and grandchildren as his own.
About a year ago, Gary was saddened by the death his dog, Razz. The Pit-Bull Boxer mix was Gary’s good buddy and constant K-9 companion. We can picture them both happy and together again.
Besides his mother, Gary is survived by his partner, Carla Sandmann, of Grand Junction, CO, his daughter Kerstin Hefner, of Medford, OR, two brothers, Karl Hefner of Grand Junction and Scott Hefner of Havelock, NC three step-children, Isaac, Sasha, and Ayla, five step-grandchildren, Nathan, Alex, Logan, Maceo, and one due in September, and the five grandchildren from his daughter Kerstin.
