Gary Alan Halder, 57, of Spirit Lake passed away on September 7, 2017 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Gary was born on June 28, 1960 in Emmetsburg, IA to Fabian and Margaret (Haar) Halder. He graduated from High School in Ruthven, IA and continued his education graduating from Iowa Central Community College. He was united in marriage to Diana Duncan on August 18, 1979 in Hartley, IA. Gary dedicated his working career to Fareway Stores, Inc. He started his career in the meat department in 1978 working for the store in Fort Dodge, IA. Throughout the years he served in Humboldt, Clear Lake, Washington and Spirit Lake managing the meat department from 1992 to 2012 when he retired. He took great pride in his work, loved interacting with his customers and thought of his employees as family. Gary’s family was the center of his life. He loved when his children would visit; having everyone under the same roof. He would spend weeks thinking about the details of their visit and what they were going to eat. He enjoyed grilling, camping, biking, woodworking, taking photos and sharing them with family and friends. He loved spending time at the shed whether it was fishing on the dock, listening to music, sitting by the fire or spending countless hours on his lawn mower. Gary was a member of the Spirit Lake Noon Kiwanis and the Spirit Lake United Methodist Church. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Diana Halder of Spirit Lake; daughter Jennifer Halder of Coralville, IA; son Ryan (Meagan) Halder of Ankeny, IA; brothers Donald Halder of Ruthven, IA; Craig Halder of Olathe, KS; and Kent (Cindy) Halder of Jessup, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents Fabian and Margaret Halder, his father in law Robert Duncan, his sister in law Becky Halder and his niece Mindy Nichols.
