Garry Lee Snodgrass, M.D., born in Padonia Township, Brown County, Kansas on Oct. 13, 1935, passed away at his Boise home on Nov. 3, 2014, after a two year battle with cancer.

Garry was raised in the small town of Hiawatha KS, and graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1953, where he was a three sport varsity letterman, played trumpet in the school band, and was class valedictorian. He attended the University of Kansas on a full academic scholarship and graduated in 1957 with a B.S. in math and chemistry. Too small for collegiate sports, he focused instead on music, playing both trumpet and piano. While still in college he was chosen on occasion to play with the legendary band leaders Harry James and Stan Kenton, filling in on trumpet for absent band members during performances in Kansas City.

While in college, Garry met and married his wife Sally Evans and they had their two daughters, Peggy and Penny. Garry received his medical degree from the University of Kansas Medical School in 1961. From 1962 to 1964 Garry served as a medical officer with the United States Navy, stationed in Norfolk, VA.

Garry made the most of his move to the mountain west–always active, hunting quail, chukar and pheasant with his beloved bird dogs, fly-fishing and snow skiing.  He was for many years a regular on the racquetball courts around town and was an excellent and avid golfer throughout his life.  A talented wood-worker, Garry’s beautiful hand-made grandfather clocks are cherished by his family.

Hard-working and devoted to his family, Garry is survived by his wife of over 58 years, Sally Evans Snodgrass, his two daughters, Peggy Snodgrass Beck, Wallingford, PA and Penny Sue Grant, Caldwell, ID, and his five grandchildren, Richard, Grace and Robert Beck, and Andrew and Patrick Grant. He is remembered with great love and will be missed by many.

The family would like to thank Horizon Hospice, Touchmark Home Care and At Home Care for the care they gave Garry and his family.
