On April 2, 2015 Garry J Oversby passed away after 10 years of fighting the terrible effects of Alzheimer’s. He passed away at Paramount Parks in Eagle, Idaho where he had been cared for the last 2 ½ months of his life. He was born May 3, 1936 in Romeo, Michigan and would have turned 79 next month. He was the oldest child of Herbert and Vera Oversby who are both deceased, but he is survived by his sister, Judilynn Watkins and his brother, Mike Oversby. He is also survived by his wife of 58 years, Linda Hall Oversby, and their four married children and their spouses: Charles and Lydia Oversby, Roland and Cindy Gagnon, David and Carrie Wright, and Chris and Jennifer Oversby. He was the proud grandfather to eleven grandchildren: Desirae, Christina, Nichole, Catherine, Michael, Daniel, Alyssa, Micaela, Dylan, Madison, and Sydney. He was also the great grandfather of one. He was a favorite playmate to all of them.
He retired from the Los Angeles County Fire Department as a Captain in 1992 after working with them for 32 years. During that time he also worked as the Public Information Officer for the department and was also on the California State Preparedness Committee. He was also an excellent still and motion picture photographer preferring nature and racing. He joined a company part time that filmed the Indy 500 every year for over 20 years and other racing events.
He also enjoyed many hobbies, especially photography, fishing, and golf. But, he especially enjoyed doing things with his family members. He will be remembered for his loving ways and his ability to relate with all age groups.
