Once in a while you get shown the light, in the strangest of places if you look at it right. That light shined bright through Garrett, in all the ways he expressed himself, from the look in his eye, and his genuinely enthusiastic laugh. Garrett as a soul shines bright amongst the shadows, while he lived to laugh, love and care, and did care, in the truest empathetic sense. He cared for his mother, his sister, his brother and father, he cared for all his family and friends. He cared for music, he cared for life and wellbeing and while it’s always the hardest in the beginning, as Garrett moves on it doesn’t end here.  If I can think of anything to say on his behalf, of what he’d express in this moment if he could, the culmination of who he is and what he’d tell us, would be that even though there’s an abundance of darkness, just know that it’s in those shadows that Garrett shines, and will continue to shine, all around us, even in the strangest of places. Like in someone’s laugh, or in their curiosity and mannerisms. Garret is always shining bright. He cares, and he always will, and he’ll be ready and waiting to greet us again in all the ways he can.

Garrett had an incredibly sensitive side to him that was engaging and truly supportive to others.  Others who he felt needed support . . .  a shoulder to lean on, an ear to bend or an empathetic smile.  While not always natural to his sense of self, Garrett would dive into a situation when others might pause or not know how to move forward.

Garrett leaves behind his mother and father, Annette and David, his brother William, sister Abigail, grandmother Michaelina Marchitelli, grandfather David Owen Sr. as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Garrett’s family is very appreciative of the love and incredible care he received at Tufts Medical Center in Boston from the Pediatric Intensive Care team.
