Garold Lee Hoch, 79 passed peacefully Monday, November 11, 2019 at the Legacy Lodge Hospice. Garold was born on November 15, 1939 in Iowa City, Iowa to Linus and Bertha Hoch. He was raised in a small town, Chariton, Iowa.
As a child, Garold enjoyed helping his dad on the turkey farm where his father was employed. He attended Chariton High School graduating with the class of 1957.
Garold started a new chapter in life by uniting in marriage to Kay Clothier. To this marriage a son Jeff Hoch was born. Five years later at Des Moines Catholic Charities Homes, Garold and Kay met and adopted their 3 week old daughter, Jenny Hoch. This made their family complete. His children were the joy of his life.
One of Garold’s fondest memories was watching his son Jeff, as a little boy, walking down the alley with his grandpa Hoch hand in hand. Grandpa Hoch “Linus” Garold’s father loved and was able to spend quality time with his grandchildren.
Garold and Kay grew apart, later divorced but still remained family. Garold met and married Sandi Nichols welcoming her two children Doug and Rhonda Rumple, then divorced in 2003. All the family still stayed close through the years with great memories.
He worked for Lowenberg Bakery in Ottumwa for a few years before beginning his career at V & M Sales Co., Inc. out of Ottumwa as a sales manager retiring after thirty-seven years. He enjoyed keeping his lawn nice and his passion was woodworking. He enjoyed taking vacation when the kids and step-kids were younger.
After Garold retired from V & M Sales and was struck with Macular Degeneration and couldn’t drive anymore, he moved in to Autumn Park for thirteen years before being diagnosed with liver cancer. There he made life long friends that were a treasure to him. Garold added a fresh wave of humor and even champion a birthday party for a lady who never remembered ever having one. The daily conversation in the family room became lively and fun which was a gift for all that chose to partake.
Garold is survived by his children, Jeffery Dean Hoch of Ottumwa and Jennifer Lynn (Tim) Dille of Williamsburg, his grandchildren Austin (Shelby) Wells-Francisco of North Liberty, IA and Brandon Francisco of Batavia, IA and his siblings Willa (Jerry) O’Conner of Hiawatha, IA, Randall (Dee) Hoch of Indiana. Garold was preceded in death by his parents Linus and Bertha Hoch and siblings Giola Rash, Orval Hoch, Iolene Van Sessen, Geraldine Hoch, Marguerite Robinson and Keith Hoch.
