Garnet Maxine Starkey Hayhurst, 87, of Smithfield passed away January 16, 2011. She was born December 29, 1923 in Wetzel County, a daughter of the late Richard and Stella Morgan Starkey. She was married to Glen J. Hayhurst in 1941 who preceded her in death in 1999. She and her husband had two different businesses in Smithfield for over 30 years. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two children, Shelia Kay Brooks and Richard Brian Hayhurst; her sisters, Verchie Gregory, Velva Frazier, and Elsie Tuttle; and three brothers Leo, Ralph, Willis Starkey. She is survived by her children, Charles Hayhurst and wife Eileen, Sharon Ann Shurman all of Wallace, Linda Lou Dulaney and her husband Edwin of Wileyville, where Garnet had lived for the past months; nine grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and two sister-in-laws.
