Gabriel William Di Rubbo peacefully passed away at home on March 23, 2022, with his loving family by his side after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Gabriel was born on September 24, 1928, to Joseph Di Rubbo and Marianina Cappabianca in Peekskill, New York. Gabriel, Gabe to all who loved him, graduated from SUNY New Paltz with a teaching degree, Master’s Degree, and Administration Certification.  Gabe joined the U.S. Army and gained the rank of Corporal in the Korean War.  After serving our Nation, Gabriel started his career as a history teacher at Hendrick Hudson School District from 1955 to 1961.

In 1961 he moved to Lakeland Central School District and stayed there as a 6th grade Social Studies teacher until his retirement in 1990.  Gabriel was well-liked and a favorite to many students.

Gabe then worked for Putnam/Westchester BOCES for a short time and finally found his new career path as the Senior Citizen Director for the Village of Buchanan. Gabe enjoyed his work at Buchanan, traveling all over the US, for twenty-six years, retiring in 2019.

Gabe loved to travel to Italy during summer vacations, and that is where he fell in love with his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth (“Elisa”) Iovino.  Gabe loved to bring his family to Italy as often as possible, especially to Bellona, where his parents were born, and Camigliano where he met his beautiful wife in 1963.

Gabe was a long-time member of the VFW Post 1030, The Knights of Columbus, and the Circolo da Vinci Italian Club.

Gabe is survived by his loving wife, Elisa, his daughter, Patricia (John) Scharf, his son, Joseph (Dana) Di Rubbo, and four grandchildren, Katlyne (Roy) Rodriguez, Jacqueline (Anthony) Monaco, Taylor (her fiancé Anthony) Di Rubbo, and Alex Di Rubbo.  Two beautiful great-grandchildren, Anthony, and Emma Monaco.

Gabe was predeceased by his parents, his brother Dominic Di Rubbo and sister-in-law Catherine Di Rubbo, both of Yorktown.
