Frelon was born December 9, 1926, in Sabetha, Kansas. Her childhood was was mainly in southeastern Colorado where the dust bowl occurred and was during the depression. She attended College in Greeley, Colorado and later at Ellsworth College in Iowa Falls. She and Keith O. Mardick were married 43 years, had three daughters and lived in Iowa Falls.
