Frederick “Fred” Dean Clark died peacefully in his home on May 15, 2021 in Raleigh, NC at the age of 73.
Fred is survived by his wife of 37 years, Deborah Webb-Clark; his five children, Heather Clark, Karah Pedersen, Megan Fazekas-King, Benjamin Clark, and Adam Clark; their spouses; his four grandchildren; and his siblings Larry James “Jim” Clark, Thomas D. “Tom” Clark, and Nancy Peck.
Fred was born in Morrow County, Ohio to Doyle and Kathryn “Bubbles” Clark, who preceded him in death. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War in Thailand and Laos as a radio operator. When he returned home, he graduated from Franklin University in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He married his wife, Deborah, in 1984. The couple brought together their three children from previous marriages and had two additional children together. They relocated to Raleigh in 1987, and Fred began working for Carolina Power and Light (now Progress Energy) as a computer programmer and research manager. Fred retired in 2003 and started his second career working at Lowe’s Home Improvement, where he loved helping people, until his official retirement in 2014.
Fred was a family man above all else and his greatest joy in life was being with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He enjoyed history, sports, and camping. He was known for his witty comebacks, quirky stories, unmarked Amazon gift deliveries, and penchant for singing oldies out of the blue.
A memorial is scheduled for June 19, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Eno River State Park Shelter (6101 Cole Mill Rd, Durham, NC 27705), where we will celebrate Fred’s life.
