Frederick A. Zering, 75, of Longs, SC, formerly of Southington, CT, passed away unexpectedly on Friday (June 21, 2013). Fred was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Backiel) Zering for 41 years. Born in New Britain, son of the late Frederick and Edna Zering, Fred graduated from New Britain High School and Hartford State Technical College. He was a veteran, honorably discharged by the US Air Force. Over the years, Fred was employed by Fafnir Bearing, by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and was self-employed as an entrepreneur. He and his loving wife retired to Longs, SC. Fred enjoyed visits and talks with his children, grandchildren and other relatives, keeping track of the financial markets, meeting new friends, and exercising at the local gym. Swimming and sauna kept Fred young at heart. Fred will be sadly missed by all. Fred is survived by his daughter, Kathy Zering, of Huntersville, NC; his son and his wife, Fred and Michelle Zering, of New Fairfield, CT; and his loving grandsons Frederick, Jaden, and Cole who affectionately called him ‘Grandpa’. Fred is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Henry Deptula of Naples, FL, and Walter Solek of Newington and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. He was pre-deceased by a sister Ruth Joyce, two sisters-in-law, Irene Deptula and Jane Solek, and a brother-in-law Joseph Backiel.
