HALFWAY – Frederick William “Pete” Hawbaker, 89, of Halfway, Md., passed away Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 20, 1921, in Clear Spring, Md., he was the son of the late Rush and Mary Alice Bryan Hawbaker.

He served in the U.S. Army in World War II.

He retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1986.

He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Dorothea D. Hawbaker; his stepmother, Annie Hawbaker; stepdaughters, Sonnia K. Tracy of Upton, Pa., Phyllis C. Doverspike of Virginia Beach, Va., Pamela D. Scott of Lemont, Pa. and Gloria A. Wilson of Barbourville, Ky.; stepsons, Gregory L. Staley of Fayetteville, Pa., Douglas M. Staley of Waynesboro, Pa. and Jon L. Staley of Mont Alto, Pa.; sisters, Martha J. Hurdley of Nashville, Tenn. and Barbara “Bobbie” Ramsey of Halfway; a brother, Charles E. Hawbaker of Hagerstown; two stepsisters; and a stepbrother.

Pete was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie Mason; sisters, Mildred L. Harbaugh and Dorothy B. Peddicord; and brothers, Rush “Buzz” Hawbaker Jr. and David L. Hawbaker.
