Frederick L. Olson, 92, of Ottawa, passed away January 14th, at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley.
Frederick was born December 13, 1920 in Austin, Minnesota. He was the son of J.A. Leroy and Emily (Kohrt) Olson. He graduated from Ottawa Township High School and Gallagher School of Business. Frederick was in the Army Air Core, and a Veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He was a Sales Representative for both Northern Illinois Gas and Sears. On November 4, 1950, he married Helen (Jelm) Olson at Stavanger Lutheran Church in Seneca, IL. Frederick was a Trustee of South Ottawa Township and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving on the church council for several years, the Ottawa Jaycees, the Golden K, the American Legion, and the Masonic Fraternity of Ottawa. He also volunteered for Ottawa Community Hospital Care-A-Van and was Troop Committeeman for Boy Scout Troop 45.
Frederick is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen, of Ottawa; one daughter, Pam (John) Hohertz of Mendota; two sons, Keith (Judy) Olson of Bolingbrook and Mark Olson of Ottawa; six grandchildren, Kristen (Steve) Schnackel, Brian Olson, Kevin Olson, Lindsay Hohertz, Jonathon Hohertz, and Scott Olson; one sister, Evelyn Perry of Springfield, IL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Frederick was preceded in death by his mother and father, J.A. Leroy and Emily Olson, and one sister, Rosella Petrich of Joliet, IL. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
