Frederick Joseph Lingel, 68, known to everyone as “Joe,” resident of North Reading, MA, retired Lynnfield, MA Fire Chief and founder of United Plastic Fabricating, passed away on April 4, 2022.
Joe is survived by his wife Nancy, with whom he just celebrated 45 years of marriage, three sons, Joshua and his wife Kirsten of Arlington MA; James and his wife Crystal of Lynnfield, MA; and Andrew and his wife Jillian of North Reading, MA; and five granddaughters Brooke, Juna, Aubrey, Kenzie, and Paige. Joe is also survived by his 3 siblings, Jane Austin and her husband Jack of Lynnfield, MA, Jonathan Lingel and his wife Jane of Astoria, Ore., and Ann Farrar and her husband Scott of Stephenson, MD. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Ditzy Lingel.
Joe dedicated his life and profession to firefighting. He served the Lynnfield Fire Department for 44 years, starting as a volunteer in 1969 and retiring as chief in 2013. During his time as a firefighter, he and his business partner founded United Plastic Fabricating (UPF) in 1982 manufacturing water tanks for fire trucks. UPF’s future will live on through his sons.
